JULY 22       Kevin Carson preaching – In Wildness Is the Preservation of the Soul  In his essay, “Walking,” Thoreau famously said, “In Wildness is the preservation of the world,” and I couldn’t agree more!  Science is starting to prove just how important nature and wild places are to our physical wellness – and this extends to our spiritual wellness too.

The Rev. John Nichols is a graduate of Dickinson College and Meadville Theological School at the University of Chicago. He has served congregations in Canton, MA, Hinsdale, IL and Wellesley Hills, MA. He currently is Minister Emeritus at Wellesley Hills and the author of three books.

Kevin Carson is a graduate of Andover Newton Theological School. After completing an internship at the First Church and Parish in Dedham, Kevin was granted Preliminary Fellowship by the UU Ministerial Fellowship Committee in September 2016, pending completion of a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.  While he has been working to complete this remaining requirement, Kevin has continued in his job as an IT manager at Hasbro, and has been preaching regularly in Chester, VT and Palmer, MA.

The Summer Union services will be held at First Parish Weston UU in July and at the Congregational Church of Weston UCC in August and the Sunday of the Labor Day weekend at 10am.  All are welcome.  When at the Congregational Church of Weston UCC worship will be held in the Sanctuary or in the Gathering Space depending on the weather.  We look forward to meeting you.

SEPT 2     Rev. Richard Edens preaching – Redeeming Passion  Song of Songs 2:8-13 Using the words of a lover praising the beauty of the beloved, God’s good – and physical – creation is celebrated.

 

The Rev. Richard Edens and the Rev. Dr. Jill Edens are the Designated Term Pastors of the Congregational Church of Weston.  They have been called to accompany the Congregational Church of Weston in a discernment process prior to calling a settled Pastor.  They retired in the summer of 2017 after serving together as Senior Pastors at the United Church of Chapel Hill (N.C.) since 1979 – more than 38 years.  (Yes, they saw Michael Jordan play college basketball.) They retired to the Boston area to be closer to their daughter, the Rev. Ruth Edens, who serves at the City Mission of Boston, and their grandchildren.  They are ordained UCC pastors and graduated from Yale Divinity School.
